In the Star Wars Galaxy, different colors represent different things. The same rules apply to lightsaber colors. The color of the lightsaber defines the Jedi and his ambitions.

Green and blue are the colors of the Jedi Knights. These are the colors of the light side of the Force, signifying peace and harmony. Likewise, red is the color of the dark side of the Force. This color represents hate, anger, rage and other negative emotions. Most of its users are Sith Lords. The goal of these users is to gain control and power over the Jedi code.

Red Kyber Crystals do not exist in nature. Thus, the Sith Lord corroded the crystal and turned it red through bloodshed rituals. His red lightsaber color means he is now a Sith Lord, dedicated to exterminating the Jedi and ruling the galaxy.
